The 4th day of Diwali is konwn as Padwa and Govardhan Puja. The Padwa is also called 'Amavasya' OR 'Kartik Shuddh Padwa'and one of the oldest story of King Bali is attached with this day. These two festivals are celebrated differently in the diverse geographical parts of the country. There are many states in India are celebrated this day with with great zeal and enthusiasm, specially Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. On this day people build cowdung, hillocks, decorate them with flowers and then worship them. It is a day devoted to the great Lord Krishna.
Gudi Padwa has special significance for the Hindu families. On this day, as a symbol of love and affection between husband and wife. As per the custom in which wife applies the 'Tilak' on the forehead of her husband, performs his 'Aarti' and also prays for his long life, even the married couples exchange gifts. They will also celebrate the Govardhan Puja (worship). Both are very auspicious occasion are celebrated with much fervor in different parts of the country.
