What is Diwali?

It means thirteenth lunar day of Krishna paksha (dark fortnight) of the Hindu calendar month Ashwin Diwali starts and ends on second lunar day of Shukla paksha of the Hindu calendar month Kartik on Bhaidooj. Diwali is the most important festival as per the Hindu Calendar because on the 1st lunar day of Shukla paksha starts New Year for Hindu. People great each other by shaking hands, eating sweets and sharing gifts.
Diwali is a official holiday in India and other countries like Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Mauritius, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Malaysia, Singapore and Fiji.
The name Diwali came from Divali means Deepavali. It means a raw of lamps. People designs rangoli with different designs to greet the guests and relatives. It is a start of a new financial year for the business as well. People do Chopra Poojan as well. The evil spirits go away by lighing lamps and bursting firecrackers as well. On the last day of Bhaidooj brothers go to the sisters house and they celebrates the festival together.
